The Fourth of July is coming, which means it’s time for fireworks and fun in the Idaho sun at Tamarack Resort near Donnelly — one of Idaho’s top resorts. Whether you’re staying in nearby McCall and looking for an impressive firework display or simply looking for a destination to experience an unforgettable holiday weekend, here are six family-friendly activities to enjoy at Tamarack this weekend.

1. Ooh and Aah at the Fireworks on Lake Cascade

With no fireworks on Payette Lake in McCall this year, Lake Cascade is the only place in the Payette River Mountain region to enjoy a lakeside view of the illuminated night sky with the family. The fireworks will be launched at dusk on July 3 from the middle of the lake to ensure better visibility from the shoreline as well as from the community’s homes. Staff and signage will be available to ensure safe social distancing per CDH guidelines, and safety precautions will be in place in accordance with the Idaho Rebounds plan. Space at the lake will be limited, so arrive early to save your spot for what will be an impressive light display. Pro tip: Tamarack Resort’s lodging options give you convenient access to the lake and the resort’s many other amenities.

2. Hone Your Watersport Skills

Have you always wanted to learn how to wakeboard or wake surf or improve your waterskiing skills? Tamarack has you covered with certified USA Waterski and Watersports instructors offering private and group lessons for all ages and skill levels on Lake Cascade. Spaces can fill up quickly, so book your lessons in advance. If a leisurely boat cruise or paddle is more your pace, then you’ll want to take advantage of Tamarack rentals. Pick up a paddleboard, kayak, pontoon or wake/surf boat at the Waterfront Cabana. Booking in advance is recommended.

3. Get an Adrenaline Rush on a Tamarack Zipline Canopy Tour

Soar through the air at speeds up to 30 mph as you travel 1,800 feet above diverse mountain terrain. The guided tour winds you through eight different ziplines and takes 2-4 hours. Closed-toe shoes are required, and a helmet, harness and pulley are provided. Tours fill up quickly, so reserve your tour in advance.

4. Tackle the Trails at Tamarack Bike Park

If your sense of adventure involves staying a little closer to the ground, then you’ll enjoy Tamarack Bike Park, which includes more than 36 miles of lift-served downhill and foothills trails. Offering trails for all abilities and rentals for the whole family, the park is considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in the Northwest — and a great alternative to Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall. New to the sport? Tamarack Resort also offers mountain biking lessons from Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association-certified trainers. The Resort’s bike park lift hours are Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Tamarack offers professionally guided, full-day and express trips along the Cabarton stretch of the Payette River that are sure to get your heart rate up and keep you cool on a hot July day. Both trips are great for first-time or veteran rafters and take guests through Class II-III rapids. Lunch and transportation are included, and booking in advance is recommended.
